Dear Watertown Public Schools Faculty, Students, and Families,
Two Differing Opinions
I suppose leaving weather decisions up to Groundhogs would result in the outcomes that occurred this morning. The famous Punxsutawney Phil from Pennsylvania predicted six more weeks of winter and CT’s very own Chuckles, the State’s official groundhog, predicted an early spring! But, what we do know is that there is some very cold weather on the way…
Severe Cold Alert
CT is expecting “brutally cold temperatures and strong winds” that will begin late tonight and continue to drop through Sunday Morning. We are closely monitoring the weather and at this time, I do not anticipate any changes to our regular school schedule on Friday but if there are any adjustments, families will be notified as soon as possible.
Please see below for some helpful tips:
Encourage children to dress appropriately’ for the season with jackets, boots, hats and gloves.
Limit time outdoors for short periods of time.
Check on your neighbors, especially elderly people living alone, people with disabilities and children.
If using space heaters or a fireplace for extra heat, make sure it is placed on a hard surface and/or a screen is used and neither are left unattended.
If your power goes out, try your best to use flashlights for primary light. Candles should never be left unattended.
Never use generators indoors as the fumes can be deadly and never use a stove or oven to heat your home.
The Governor has opened warming centers and anyone in need of shelter is strongly urged to call 2-1-1 for assistance.
Stay warm Watertown!
