Watertown, CT - March 20, 2023 - On Tuesday March 21, Watertown  High School released the names of the 2022-2023 Valedictorian, Salutatorian and Top 10 students for the academic year. WHS congratulates this year’s Valedictorian, Giacomo Rinaldi; and Salutatorian, Ian Metcalfe.

Earning these recognitions speaks to the tremendous effort and dedication students put into their academic journey over the course of their career at Watertown High School. 

Jack and Ian achieved this honor by enrolling and exceeding in courses that are rigorous and demanding, resulting in the top GPA of their class.  A student’s cumulative GPA is calculated by adding all weighted course GPAs and dividing by the number of credits taken.  

Giacomo Rinaldi, also known as Jack, has had a very positive impact on WHS’s community over the past four years.  He was accepted into the WHS honors cohort program READY in this freshman year, inducted into National Honor Society, is a student representative for our district’s Vision of a Graduate, has been a 2023 class officer for the past three years, has served as treasurer and co-president for Interact club, has served as treasurer for Best Buddies, and this year founded and is serving as president to a brand new club called Students in STEM.  

Jack has volunteered to be a part of our Summer Bridge program and has served as a Link Leader, where he helps freshman students acclimate to our high school.  Jack is not only kind and caring but has also done a phenomenal job in the classroom academically.  We salute this exceptional student, who plans to pursue the medical field with an extremely bright future ahead of him!

Ian Metcalfe is a student who has stood out at the top of his class, an elite example of a driven and dedicated young scholar. His dedication to his academic excellence is something to be admired. He prides himself on his high achievement in his academics, Education and learning are something Ian genuinely enjoys. He is able to balance the demands of his advanced courses while participating in several extra-curricular activities.

In addition, the following students placed in the top 10 for high academic achievement this year. Names have been placed in alphabetical order: Michael Mattingly Creter; Eva Dishnica, Samuel Joseph Helayel, Emily Morgan Keirnan, Kami Elise LaBella, Charlotte Kyla Manalo, Melanie Taylor Martinelli, Jasmine Thu Pham.
