Dear Watertown Public Schools Faculty, Students, and Families,

The start of April is always a busy time. It’s great to see an increase in gym classes outside in the great weather. And, before we know it upon our return, events, concerts, and celebrations will soon fill our calendars! With spring break just around the corner, I hope the entire WPS community gets time to refresh and enjoy time with friends and family.

Special Holidays in April

April is a special time for our Christian and Jewish families. This past Sunday marked Palm Sunday and kicked off Holy Week in preparation for Easter. And for our members of the Jewish faith, Passover began Wednesday evening.

Holy week and Easter, April 2-9

Easter commemorates an important principle of Christianity; the death and resurrection of Jesus. Christians around the world celebrate by attending church, sunrise services, and special family meals to gather and share goodness and hope to the world. Decorating Easter eggs is a tradition that all enjoy during this special holiday. And, our families who observe Orthodox Easter will celebrate on Sunday, April 16, this year! We wish all of our Christian families a wonderful Easter!

Passover, April 5-13

Passover is a special time for those of the Jewish faith to hold traditions that commemorate the story of Israelites’ freedom from slavery. The start of Passover begins with Seder, a special meal that includes specific food deep with symbolic meaning to represent the story of exiting Egypt. Matzah, unleavened bread, is an important staple eaten throughout the holiday. We wish all of our Jewish families a happy Passover!
