March 9, 2025
Dear Watertown Public Schools Families and Faculty,
It is with great happiness to be able to share the names of our 2024-2025 WHS Top Ten Students. Yesterday, families and students were invited to a special breakfast in the WHS Lecture Hall to celebrate the achievements and accomplishments of the following students. Earning these recognitions speaks to the tremendous effort and dedication students put into their academic journey over the course of their career at Watertown High School. Please join me in congratulating the official WHS Top 10 for the 2024-2025 academic year!

A Productive Start to March
The month of March has been a flurry of activity across the district! From Judson and Polk school performing at the annual St. Jude’s telehon to Invention Convention judging, special guest readers for Read Across America, and a ‘Winter Wonderland Literacy and Math Night’, our elementary schools have been busy welcoming families in to celebrate the good work of our students.
At Swift, teachers and students have been working together to positively and continuously impact culture and climate. Student voices make a difference!
WHS is officially the best ‘Runner Up’ for the CAS School of the Year Award
WHS has had a tremendous first three months of the new year. To single out one special event out of many that have occurred, I am proud to report that in early February WHS administration was notified that they were one of two finalists for the CT Association of Schools CAS School of the Year Award. Out of 40 applications from across the state, WHS was in the top two! As the official second place winner for the CAS School of the Year Award, representatives of WHS will attend the CAS banquet to celebrate their successes! It takes many hands to make a school and a school district great and every year we make great strides to climbing the charts in our state! Please join me in giving three big cheers to the students, faculty and staff of WHS for all that they do to make WHS an amazing school and WPS an excellent school district.
Don’t Forget to ‘Spring’ Forward
If you haven’t already don’t forget to spring your clocks forward an hour today. See you bright and early tomorrow morning!
Sincerely,
Dr. V

Ramadan February 28-March 29
February 28 marked the beginning of Ramadan, a sacred month for our Muslim community. Observed by Muslims worldwide, Ramadan is a time of fasting, prayer, reflection, and togetherness.
Throughout this holy month, Muslims fast from dawn to sunset as a practice of spiritual discipline and self-purification. It is also a time of increased prayer and charitable giving. Each evening, the fast is broken with a meal called Iftar, which is often shared with family and friends.
We extend our warmest wishes to our Muslim friends and neighbors for an easy and fulfilling fast. May this month bring peace and joy.
Ash Wednesday and Lent March 5-April 17
The 40-day period of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, which started on March 5, 2025. Lent is a 40-day period of fasting, prayer, and reflection observed by many Christians in preparation for Easter. This represents the 40 days that were spent fasting and praying in the desert.
During Lent, many observers give up certain luxuries — such as sweets, specific foods, and entertainment— as a form of self-discipline and increase acts of charity.
