CT - SEDS ‘CT Special Education Data System’
March 18, 2022
Dear Watertown Public Schools Faculty and Families,
We would like to make all families aware that beginning July 1, 2022 the Connecticut State Department of Education will be launching a Statewide, web-based special education data management system called CT-SEDS (Connecticut Special Education Data System).
The use of CT-SEDS for special education IEP and 504 documents will be mandatory for all districts beginning July 1, 2022.
CT-SEDS is an online management system for all Individualized Education Plans (IEP) and 504 documents.
The State is moving to CT-SEDS for three reasons:
- To ensure that all districts across the State of CT are utilizing the same IEP/504 platform.
- To streamline the look of IEP/504 documents in order to make them more reader/user friendly.
- To continually improve the quality of IEP/504 plans for all students.
New! Parent Portal
The new system will include a parent portal for families to access their student’s IEP and other important information as well as several language translations for PPT invitations and IEP documents to ensure that parents receive information in their native language.
- The ten languages available for translation include: Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Creole-Haitian, Mandarin, Albanian, Polish, Urdu, Bengali, & Vietnamese.
New Look! to the IEP
The layout of the current individualized education plan (IEP) will also change. The new layout of the IEP is designed to be more user friendly and easy to follow.
The most important thing to take away from these changes, is that they will NOT impact your child’s special education programming.
Parents and students do not have to take any action at this time. The Office of Student Services will provide information as it is received and will hold an informational night in fall 2022 to present CT-SEDS information to families and answer any questions that they may have.
Prior to July 1, 2022, all WPS families will receive another communication that outlines detailed information regarding the changes of CT-SEDS.
New! Training for Select WPS Faculty
Select WPS employees will begin training on the new CT-SEDS platform this summer 2022.
Special education, guidance, and related service faculty are set to receive training prior to the start of the year on the new platform.
Our staff will receive training so that our district is ready to roll out with the implementation of CT-SEDS with the start of the 2022-2023 school year.
In the 2022-2023 academic year, if your child’s current IEP/504 is being created, reviewed, or modified, it will be completed in the new CT-SEDS platform. As usual, each of our schools will contact families when they are scheduled for their next PPT/504 meeting.
As mentioned above, as soon as the State releases additional information and resources, we will update families again. Click below to view two FAQ’s about the CT SEDS platform:
We look forward to sharing more information very soon.
