Dear Watertown Public Schools Faculty, Families and Students,

The past two weeks have been a busy time across the Watertown Public Schools. Jumping off the heals of our festive Halloween and Fall celebrations, we jumped right into classroom tours of the good work happening in our schools.

  • Hosting visitors from the State of CT to see our teachers and students in action was a highlight for JTPS! And all of our schools were excited to host parent-teacher conferences to share all of the good work students have engaged since the start of the year.

  • To round it all off, a series of Red, White and Blue Veterans Day assemblies took place this week in remembrance of those who served and those who continue to serve our beautiful country so bravely.

  • If you are looking for a fantastic way to spend this long weekend, don’t forget it’s opening weekend for WHS’ performance of Radium Girls. Come on out to support our theater program and catch a great performance!

  • Lastly, now that elections are over, we will be swearing in all newly elected Board of Education members at our next regularly scheduled BOE meeting on Monday, Nov. 13 at 7PM. Welcome to all new and returning Board members!

I hope you all have a wonderful long weekend! Pictures are included at the very end of this week's message.

Diwali

This weekend, one of the largest festivals of the year for our Hindu families begins. It is the season of Diwali! Over the course of five days, families will celebrate with friends and members of the community by exchanging gifts, sharing food, and meeting in joyous festivities. Most notably on the third day, the main “Festival of Lights” celebration will take place. With lit diyas (clay oil lamps) and candles to mark the special occasion, colorful and bright lights will fill the sky and windows of homes. Sometimes, there are even fireworks to signify this special day. To all of our families who celebrate the special tradition of Diwali, we wish you a wonderful week of celebrations.
