The Watertown Police Department and Watertown Board of Education are proud to announce important updates regarding Swift Middle School’s School Resource Officer (SRO) program.
After five years of distinguished service as the SRO at Swift Middle School, Officer Christopher Donston has been promoted to the rank of sergeant. This well-deserved promotion recognizes his exceptional dedication and outstanding contributions to the safety and well-being of Watertown’s youth. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Sergeant Donston and express our deepest gratitude for his service and positive impact on our community.
Following an extensive selection process involving both school and police department personnel, Officer Willie Quarles has been appointed as the new SRO at Swift Middle School. Officer Quarles brings a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to fostering positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
About Officer Quarles: Officer Quarles is a seasoned law enforcement professional with 30 years of service. His career began in 1995 with the Torrington Police Department, where he served for 25 years in roles including SWAT team member, Traffic Unit officer, and a leader within the Police Activities League. Beyond his professional duties, he contributed to his community as head coach of the Torrington Warriors Youth Football League for 16 years and as the league’s president for two years.
In 2020, Officer Quarles joined the Watertown Police Department, where he has excelled in various capacities, including Field Training Officer, Traffic Unit member, motorcycle operator, and a key contributor to the Department’s overdose response team. His dedication, work ethic, and wealth of experience have earned him widespread respect.
As the new SRO, Officer Quarles is committed to creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for students. His focus will be on fostering trust, encouraging open communication, and collaborating with educators and parents to ensure the well-being and success of every student at Swift Middle School.
