Per the WPS Food Charging Policy, students who do not have cash or sufficient funds in their meal account will still receive a meal, and the cost of that meal will be charged to their account. It is essential that all students have a lunch to eat each school day.  However, charging à la carte items, including snacks and ice cream, is not permitted when a student does not have funds available.

All charged meals must be repaid. Students will be reminded to maintain funds in their MySchoolBucks (MSB) account, and parents/guardians will receive email notifications when balances are low or negative. The Food Service Department also communicates with families through negative balance letters and emails, and parents/guardians may contact the Food Service Office at any time to check their child’s meal account balance.

All negative balances must be paid in full. Accounts with unpaid negative balances may be referred to a collection agency for repayment.  To avoid this, families should:

1. should promptly repay outstanding balances OR 
2. complete and submit the Free and Reduced-Price School Meals application

 If a family does not qualify for free or reduced-price meals but is experiencing temporary or ongoing financial hardship, they should contact the Food Service Department as soon as possible to discuss available support and options.

MySchoolBucks Year-End Policy

Positive meal account balances will automatically roll over to the next school year.

Exceptions:

• High school seniors and students/staff leaving the district may request a refund of remaining funds by submitting a written request to Ms. Jennifer Geise at geiseje@watertownps.org. Refunds will be mailed to the home address on file. Please allow 6–8 weeks for processing.
  • Note: Refunds are issued for balances of $3.00 or more only.
• Graduating seniors may transfer their remaining balance to a sibling currently enrolled in the district with a written request from a parent or guardian.
• Remaining funds may be donated to the district Angel Fund, which supports families facing financial hardship. Donation requests must be submitted in writing to Ms. Jennifer Geise at geiseje@watertownps.org.

Student & Staff balances not claimed for refund or transfer within one year of leaving the district will be automatically donated to the Angel Fund.

To file a program discrimination complaint, a Complainant should complete a Form AD-3027, USDA Program Discrimination Complaint Form which can be obtained online by clicking here, from any USDA office, by calling (866) 632-9992, or by writing a letter addressed to USDA. The letter must contain the complainant’s name, address, telephone number, and a written description of the alleged discriminatory action in sufficient detail to inform the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights (ASCR) about the nature and date of an alleged civil rights violation. The completed AD-3027 form or letter must be submitted to USDA by:
